Assessing regional challenges and opportunities in Amman, Jordan, 28 April 2024

At this critical juncture in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Oliver McTernan and Jordan Morgan travelled to Jordan to assess recent events, their impact on Jordan and the wider region.

Amid the rising human costs in Gaza and the risks of escalation they discussed the opportunities to develop momentum towards a sustainable peace. They focused on the immediate and ongoing humanitarian challenges facing the population in Gaza including the urgent need for food, sanitation, and temporary accommodation to avoid a further unnecessary loss of life. They also discussed the role Jordan can play in the development of the health, education, legal and economic sectors the day after a ceasefire is called.

Whilst in Amman, they held excellent meetings with His Royal Highness Prince Hassan bin Talal, H.E. Dr. Firas Al Hawari, Jordanian Minister of Health, in addition to health and education experts during roundtable and bilateral discussions. They also met with European diplomats to further assess recent developments.
